THE MENTAWAI UMA

Just steps from the Indian Ocean are our Umas. Build in traditional Mentawai style and construction, our Umas are the perfect balance between the Mentawai and Western world. Each Uma is clean, spacious and comfortable with all the necessities of the western world while maintaining the feel of the Mentawais. Air conditioning, fans, hot/cold water, high speed internet, refrigerator with cold drinks and a safe for your personal belongings. Bath towels, shampoo and soap are provided as well adapters for electrical outlets. We use a 220V current and Indonesian plugs and if you have an questions on what to plug in, please ask our management.

We offer 8 shared Umas that are perfect for families, couples or traveling singles looking to get barreled. Our Umas are cleaned daily and laundry service is available anytime. If you're a single surfer looking for an exclusive Uma, there is an additional charge of $1,950 US per 10/11 day trip. Please email us to check if there is availability for an exclusive uma.

THE HEART OF KANDUI RESORT

It’s difficult to describe in words, but the soul of Kandui Resort resides in our Restaurant. The Kandui Resort Restaurant is where is all happens and for almost 2 decades, we have created the perfect blend of Western and Indonesian cuisine. Our menu is a major part of the Kandui Resort experience and no expense is spared. We pride ourselves in our local kitchen staff and while you will not find any 5 star dining at Kandui Resort, what you will find is high quality, healthy food and plenty of it to keep you in the water all day.

We are also not in the bar business and not looking to take advantage of our guests. Bintangs are always $1 at the bar and always free on the afternoon boats and floating dock. Mixed drinks are priced at $3.75 and all pricing is in USD. Our kitchen staff has a great deal of experience with Vegetarian/Vegan meals and if you require special meals or have dietary needs, we're happy to accommodate. Please advise our booking manager prior to your arrival to the island and also our resort manager upon arrival to the resort to ensure we have what you need.

BREAKFAST

6:00-10:30am | Made to Order

Breakfast is made to order (eggs, french toast, etc) and also includes all the basic continental options (cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc).

LUNCH

12:00-5:00pm | plated meals

Lunch typically consists of a meat (steak, chicken, fish, shrimp), starch, vegetable, salad and fresh fruit.

DINNER

7:30pm | plated meals

Dinner typically consists of a meat (steak, chicken, fish, shrimp), starch, vegetable, salad, fresh fruit and homemade dessert.

THE MENTAWAI'S BEST HAPPY HOUR

If the restaurant is the heart and soul of Kandui Resort, our 4Bobs floating dock runs a close second. Located a short paddle from 4Bobs, it’s the perfect place to relax in-between sessions, enjoy a drink or heckle your friends. The dock has beach chairs, umbrellas, drinks, is exclusive to Kandui Resort guests and a favorite of anyone who’s stepped foot on it. The dock is especially popular with wives and girlfriends taking in the sun with a cold drink. It’s the best happy hour in the Mentawais and we’re always pumped to offer free Bintangs on the house every afternoon.

New this year! We've replaced our 4Bobs Floating dock with a bigger version and also placed the smaller floating dock across the channel at Karangbat (aka Bikinis).

This is a quote from one of our long-term guests and sums up our feelings about our local staff. Mentawaiians are some of the most friendly, loving people you will ever come across and we’re stoked to hire virtually 100% Mentawai. Our philosophy from Day 1 was to employ as many local Mentawaiians as possible and we're proud to support over 45 familes. Our local staff is a huge part of the Kandui Resort experience and you will not find another resort in the Mentawais where the local staff is integrated more into the daily experience.

TSUNAMI/EARTHQUAKE PREPARATION

While a tsunami following an earthquake is very unlikely, earthquakes in the Mentawai are a reality and Kandui Resort has built a bridge in case of a potential Tsunami. If you experience a substantial earthquake, please meet in the restaurant. From here, we will get a head count and proceed to the Tsunami bridge which is located just NW of the restaurant, directly behind the game room. The bridge leads directly to the hill in the center of the island where there is zero risk of a tsunami. In almost 2 decades of business, we've yet to experience a tsunami.

THE FASTEST INTERNET
CONNECTION IN THE MENTAWAI

You’ll be hard pressed to find a more remote location than Kandui Resort and you'll be hard pressed to find a faster internet connection in all of Indonesia. Keeping in touch with your family, friends and work is the utmost importance at Kandui Resort and with 100mbs plus of bandwidth, we've taken the steps to ensure you'll never be out of touch. Whether watching WSL events, FaceTiming your family back home or Zoom Video Work Calls, no other resort comes close. Offered within our Restaurant, Game Room and every Uma, our internet is available at any time and is still 100% free.

New this year! Kandui is one of the few resorts that offer both a fibre microwave and satellite Starlink internet connection. Our fibre microwave connection is our primary internet connection with 100MB plus of bandwidth and Starlink is our backup. Our fibre rarely goes down but if it does, our Starlink is there as a backup to ensure that each guest is connected during their Kandui stay.

NON-SURFING ACTIVITIES

In addition to having the best surf in the world, Kandui Resort also has numerous must do activities during your stay. These are perfect for the non-surfing wives/girlfriends and the perfect break in-between surf sessions. We also have a large number of Indonesian woman that work at the resort and love when wives and girlfriends come to visit. They instantly take to women and make them part of the Kandui Resort family. If you’re visiting with you kids, we’re happy to arrange a nanny at minimal expense to help during your trip as well.

Activities

Snorkeling

The snorkeling in front of the resort is some of the best in the Mentawais. We have masks, snorkels and fins available at no cost and you're welcome to go out anytime.

Local Village Trips

Our local staff is a huge part of the Kandui Resort experience and we can schedule a local guided trip to their village. This is an incredible experience and the village kids love when westerns come visit (especially the wives and girlfriends). It’s a must do, there’s no fee and the majority of our guests say it's the highlight of their trip.

Island Treks

Our side of the island is private and perfect for exploring. We have trails cut out to the center and towards the top of island and also towards south part of our island (in front of Rifles). These are both 2 great options for exploring the island and checking out the raw, uncut jungle Mentawai.

Floating Dock

The Kandui Resort Floating Dock is our pride and joy. Build directly in front of the resort, right next to 4Bobs Right, the Floating dock is exclusive to Kandui Resort Guests and a favorite of anyone who’s stepped foot on it. The dock has beach chairs, umbrellas and is the perfect place to take in the sun while you're surfing right out front. The dock is especially popular with wives and girlfriend taking in the sun with a cold drink. We also offer free Bintangs every evening on the Dock and there's no better happy hour in the Mentawais.

SUPs and Kayaks

We have a quiver of both SUPs and Kayaks that are available anytime at no cost. Directly out front is very calm and perfect for cruising. Also, make sure to check out our mangrove area in the center of the island for SUPing with your significant other!

Private island

Located right in front of the resort is a private island that is perfect for the afternoon walk. We can drop you off with drinks and spend an hour walking around a beautiful private island while you take in the sunset. Always a popular option for the wives and girlfriends.
